SARAH SEE

President AY21/22

“A leader is someone who uses their position to ensure everyone's voices are heard and helps people around them to grow. They must be willing to unconditionally care for the people around them and give them the courage to take steps towards their goals. Above all, a leader must be kind, compassionate and willing to give their all in nurturing future leaders.”

SIEW KIM

Vice-President AY21/22

“Anne Wojcicki, the CEO of 23&Me once said, "The reality is that the only way change comes is when you lead by example."

Everyone can be a leader, but to differentiate one who can overcome challenges with the support, trust and respect of the people around them, to bring change and inspire others to do better in the future is difficult. To me, a leadership position means nothing but rather a courageous person who dares to start their journey first and empower others into success.”

RUI-EN

Vice-President AY21/22

“Being a leader means to not only allow yourself to grow but also allowing and helping the people around you to do so. A leader should not just be about the title but also bearing in mind the responsibilities, the type of influence we can be and how we can see things from a different perspective of a bigger picture. We do not work alone but as a team, because there is so little we could do as an individual as compared to a team’s effort.”

NUR SARAH

Secretary AY21/22

“To me, a leader is not someone who orders people around but is someone who guides their followers to become leaders too. I believe that anyone can become a leader with proper guidance.

A leader is someone who has a voice as well as the ability to listen to other voices around them. A leader must listen to those voices and be open-minded as one's idea is not perfect in itself. By listening to others and working together towards a problem, the solution may easily be found.”

HANIS

Secretary AY21/22

“Leaders are responsible for making decisions and are the voice of their people. Thereupon, they are given a certain level of authority over others.

Thus, I sincerely believe that a leader should inculcate humility in presenting oneself which consequently, will garner respect and kindness from others. One should diminish any sense of superiority, and stand on equal ground. This makes the individual seem more approachable and elicits a sense of transparency. The authenticity displayed by the leader would build the foundations of trust and teamwork amongst the people.

That is what being a leader means to me.”

INSHERAH

Head Of Welfare AY21/22

“Anyone can say they possess leadership qualities, yet face difficulties showing them. Actions speak louder than any word uttered.

The actions of a leader consist of lending a hand, listening to others, whether it’s their opinion or criticism but stays open-minded and accepting. Is respectful to everyone regardless of their position or background and treats people justly. Leaders appreciate everyone’s efforts and are generous and forgiving. More importantly, they develop people to be better.

Everyone has aspects of qualities that could define them as leaders, it’s our responsibility to strive to be the best version of ourselves and lead others the same way.”

GWENN

Assistant Head Of Welfare AY21/22

“Whenever I hear the word “leader”, I think of someone that I can look up to and confide in. However, being a leader does not necessarily mean that they take charge of everything. Sure, they have to step in and take control when things get out of hand, but allowing others to lead and grow is what makes a leader a good leader.”

NASHRUL

Assistant Head Of Welfare AY21/22

“Being a leader is about leading your team to greater heights and achieving the goals you have set. It is about facing different difficulties and obstacles together to reach your goals in the end. Being a boss is way different from being a leader. Bosses manage their employees while leaders motivate their teammates and guide them to soar for greater heights. They also understand their teammates and constantly inspire them to strive and reach their goals.”

CAITLYN

 Head Of Publicity AY21/22

“My idea of a leader is someone who leads by example. They should be able to communicate clearly and objectively while demonstrating mutual respect to their teammates. A leader does not necessarily have to be spontaneous in being the first to have an idea or take lead, but rather, be the one who can give and take to new suggestions.

To me, as long as one has the desire, willpower and never-ending motivation to improve themselves, they can eventually develop and become an effective leader!”

NASHRAH

Assistant Head Of Publicity AY21/22

“To me, a leader is someone who enables others to act. They bring out the best version of the people they work with. A leader also keeps an open mind and listens to others instead of dismissing them. They do not use their position to exert power negatively, but use it to create a safe and non-judgemental environment for the growth of each person, including themselves.”
